LEWISTON – More than 50 artists, all teachers in public and private schools working with students from kindergarten through grade 12, have work in the new exhibition at the University of Southern Maine’s Atrium Art Gallery at Lewiston-Auburn College.

The exhibition, “Educate and Create,” begins Friday, Jan. 25, with a reception free and open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m.

The show of 70-plus works includes paintings, drawings, photographs, digital media, glass, mixed media, and work in ceramics, fiber arts, and metal.

From traditional Maine landscapes and still lifes to work that touches on environmental, sociological, personal, and political issues, the exhibition encompasses diverse points of view.

The artists are all members of the Maine Art Education Association, conceived in 1959 by a small group of art educators interested in the advancement and improvement of visual art education in the state.

The exhibition will continue through April 5. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
