WOODSTOCK – Selectmen voted Tuesday to schedule a special town meeting for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the meeting room at the Bryant Pond town office.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the session is needed to accept a $43,902 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

The grant will be received, if accepted, by the Fire Department and used to grade turnout gear and equipment needed to keep the department in compliance with federal and state laws. A second article on the warrant will ask people to approve the use of $2,295 from the special equipment account to match the grant.

“This is a great chance to keep the department up to well within the guidelines set down by the national fire act, and the selectmen and I applaud fire Chief Geff Inman and his firefighters for the efforts in applying for and being approved for this grant,” Maxfield said.

In other business, selectmen voted to place an article on the regular March town meeting warrant to ask voters to approve using $30,000 from the equipment reserve account to buy a new one-ton service truck to replace the 2002 Ford, which needs repairs.

Jennifer Chase was unanimously appointed to serve on the town’s Planning Board, bringing the board up to full membership.
