CASTINE – Area students were recently sworn in as members of the Maine Maritime Academy Regiment of Midshipmen.

The midshipman oath was administered to the 176 candidates by Captain Jeff Loustaunau, commandant of midshipmen and port captain, marking the successful conclusion of regimental preparatory training. The students are members of the MMA Class of 2011.

Thaddeus Montoya of Auburn is a graduate of Edward Little High School, Auburn. He is majoring in marine engineering operations.

Corey Sampson of Auburn is a graduate of Hebron Academy. He is majoring in marine engineering technology.

Mark Stambach of Lisbon Falls is a graduate of Lisbon High School. He is majoring in marine engineering technology.

Samuel Smith of Minot is a graduate of Poland Regional High School. He is majoring in marine transportation operations.

Shawn Atkinson of North Turner is a graduate of Leavitt Area High School, Turner. He is majoring in marine engineering technology.

Christopher Carver of Auburn is a graduate of Edward Little High, Auburn. He is majoring in marine engineering technology.
