POLAND – The Poland Players will perform Arlene Hutton’s “As It Is In Heaven,” a play set in a Kentucky Shaker village in the early 19th century, Jan. 30 to Feb. 2 at Poland Regional High School.

The play depicts the Shakers’ philosophical and religious beliefs as they try and establish a monastic community. It is also during this time period that the Shaker style of worship underwent some dramatic changes, with dancing and singing – an integral part of their worship – becoming more intense. Feelings of ecstasy filled the community.

Punctuated by beautiful Shaker music and rhythmic pattern dancing, the inspirational production explores how a group of women try to live a spiritual life that often conflicts with human nature.

The all-student cast includes Kelsie Davidson, Alyson Sylvester, Alyssa Reid, Samantha Poulin, Hali Brown, Kyley Hancock, Sierra Hackett, Savannah Albert, Meghan Allen, Maggie Norton and Jackie Joncas.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. at Dr. Robert Wall Theatre at the school, 1457 Maine St. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors. For more information or to make reservations, call D’Arcy Robinson at 998-5400, extension 218.
