JAY – Sophomore forward Hillary Deane compiled 19 points and five rebounds to lead Jay to a 28-23 win over Wiscasset in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Tigers (8-6) found themselves trailing 17-14 at the half, but clawed their way back with an 8-2 advantage in the third quarter and a two-point margin in the final frame.
Senior guard Marissa Hammond led the Redskins (1-13) with 10 points.
Lawrence 67, Lewiston 35
LEWISTON – Brogan Liberty poured in a game-high 22 points to lead Lawrence in a 67-35 victory over Lewiston.
The Bulldogs (13-1) ended the first quarter with a 30-0 advantage and never looked back. Alex Bernatchez and Megan Gilbert combined for 23 points.
Shelby Turcotte paced the Blue Devils (1-13) with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Buckfield 76, Vinalhaven 40
BUCKFIELD – Sophomore guard Ashlee Hamann rattled off 21 points to lead Buckfield to a 76-40 triumph over Vinalhaven.
The Bucks (13-0) set the tone by jumping out to a 26-6 first-quarter lead. Junior guard Lindsay Henderson contributed 15 points.
Junior forward Kayla Conway collected 11 points for the Vikings (11-4).
Hebron 35, Elan 32
HEBRON – Annie Hart led a balanced attack with 14 points as Hebron edged out Elan with a 35-32 victory.
The Lumberjacks took an early 12-4 first-quarter lead and battled fiercely to keep an edge over the course of the rest of the contest. Kayla Hemphill provided eight points in the winning effort.
Chelsea Allain nailed down a game-high 15 points for Elan. But she received little assistance from her teammates with the exception of Jenna Palles, who had 12 points.
St. Dom’s 49, NYA 24
YARMOUTH – St. Dom’s full-court pressure wore down North Yarmouth in the second half in the Saints’ 49-24 triumph.
The Saints (9-6) outscored NYA 27-8 in the second half. Catherine Joseph led St. Dom’s with 12 points, and Allaina Murphy added 10. Blair Haggert led the Panthers (3-10) with 13 points.
Rangeley 53, Calvary Christian 26
RANGELEY – Senior forward Krista Jamison piloted 17 points to lead Rangeley to a 53-26 sinking of Calvary Christian in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Lakers (6-8) cruised to a 35-11 first-half lead. Freshman guard Allie Hammond contributed 14 points, while senior guard Ali Godaire added 10 points for Rangeley.
Faith Thomas paced the Sabers with 14 points.
Dirigo 50, Winthrop 28
DIXFIELD – Nikki Kaulback led a balanced attack with 12 points to lead Dirigo to a 50-28 triumph over Winthrop.
The Cougars jumped out to a 13-5 lead after the first quarter and never trailed. Bri Janke had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Carrie Jamison and Ricki Sinclair had nine apiece. Kaulback and Jamison had seven steals each.
Monmouth 45, Livermore Falls 18
MONMOUTH – Jenn Lola scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack as Monmouth coasted to a 45-18 victory over Livermore Falls.
The Mustangs (12-2) put the game away in the first quarter with a 16-0 run. Bethany Neal added eight points, while Katie Woodman and Alyssa Morin had seven apiece.
Kathryn Lake led the Andies (2-13) with seven points.
Yarmouth 29, GNG 27
GRAY – Junior guard Michelle Moylan scored 10 points in a balanced attack as Yarmouth held on for a 29-27 win over Gray-New Gloucester in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
The Clippers (5-9) caught some wind in the first half to take a 19-9 lead at the break.
The Patriots (7-7) played catch up in the second stanza. But even with a 5-0 run in the last quarter, they failed to overcome the deficit at the final buzzer. Sophomore forward Laura Getchell sank five field goals for a team-high 10 points for the Patriots.
