LEWISTON – The Lewiston City Republican Committee will hold its presidential caucus at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Multi-Purpose Center on Birch Street. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Lewiston will be one of 11 communities in Androscoggin County to come together in the same place and time for voters to participate in a presidential preference poll.
There will be a general meeting beginning at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria of the Multi-Purpose Center where voters can meet local and state candidates, as well as representatives from several presidential campaigns. Speakers will include 2nd Congressional District candidate John Frary and Ed McLaughlin of the Maine Economic Resource Institute. Registration for unenrolled or unregistered voters will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and Lewiston will begin to caucus at 11 a.m.
The purpose of the caucus is to elect delegates and alternates to the state convention which will be held May 2-3 at the Augusta Civic Center, to elect members to the County Republican Committee and to organize the municipal committee for the upcoming elections. Republican candidates for office will be invited to address the caucus.
Results of the presidential preference poll will be reported Saturday evening by state party Chairman Mark Ellis.
