PERU – Selectman Rodney Jamison on Monday night commended firefighters from Peru, Mexico, Rumford, Dixfield and Canton for their action Sunday in battling a fire at the home of Jack and Julie Corliss.

Jamison, who lives next door to the Corliss house, said he was very relieved to look out his window and see a fire engine positioned between his house and the Corliss house. He praised the action of firefighters who were protecting his home as well as Blaisdell’s Variety store.

He said they had a firefighter with a hose stationed at the gas tanks by the store.m “This was mutual aid in action and it was nice to see,” he said.

In other business, the board signed a building permit for Merle Lufkin Jr., who had already done construction without a permit.

Property owners in the shoreland zone need permits from the code enforcement officer before building is permitted.

Selectman Jim Pulsifer said, “We must make it clear that people outside the shoreland zone also need permits, and they need to know that if construction is started before they get a permit, then they are liable for a fine.”

The board decided to schedule a workshop on the building permit policy.

Three concealed weapons permits were signed.

The board adjourned to executive session to discuss personnel issues.
