AUBURN – The Auburn City Democratic Committee will hold its presidential caucus at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Auburn Middle School. Doors will open at noon for the city’s registered Democrats to check in.

Any Auburn citizen age 17 who will be 18 by Election Day, Nov. 4, is eligible and welcome to register and participate.

Staff will be available to register independents and unregistered voters who want to participate in the caucus.

There will be no admittance after 1 p.m. Presidential balloting is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Auburn citizens who are registered as Republicans or Green Independents who desire to participate in the caucus must change their party affiliation to Democrat no later than Jan. 26.

Registered Democrats unable to attend may vote by absentee ballot by calling the Maine Democratic Headquarters at 622-6233.

The deadline for the request is Jan. 31. Completed ballots must arrive no later than Feb. 6 at Democratic headquarters in Augusta to in order to be included in the delegate count.

The committee is asking each attendee who can afford to do so to bring one item of nonperishable food to be donated to the Trinity Jubilee Center to help feed the hungry and homeless in the community.

Any interested citizen regardless of political affiliation is welcome and invited to attend and observe the caucus in progress. Seating will be provided in the visitor section of the caucus.

Potluck refreshments will be available for all who attend, said Ed Desgrosseilliers, committee chairman and the 2008 caucus convener.
