HOULTON (AP) – Authorities say a 53-year-old Houlton man who lived alone died when a fire broke out and gutted his two-story home.

The fire was reported by a neighbor Saturday afternoon. Firefighters found the body of Duane Knapp, a meat cutter at a grocery store, on the kitchen floor.

State fire marshal investigators were seeking to determine the origin of the fire.

A 93-year-old Palermo man died early Saturday morning when fire swept his farmhouse.
