WILTON – A convenience store employee has received a court summons after he allowed an acquaintance to take gas and cigarettes from the store, according to police.
James P. Moore, 30, of Farmington, who has been working as a clerk at the Big Apple in Wilton, received the summons on three charges of theft by deception and one charge of filing a false report, said police Chief Dennis Brown on Monday.
The department received a call Jan. 21 of a gas drive-off from the store on Route 2, he said. Officer Blaine Rackliff was able to stop the vehicle near the Wal-Mart store in Farmington. Following an investigation he found that Moore had allowed the driver to leave with $41.05 of gas and then called police to report it as a drive-off.
The driver, Brown said, also told police that the clerk had let him have gas one other time as well as have free cigarettes from the store on several occasions.
