PORTLAND (AP) – A University of Maine student has pleaded not guilty to charges connected to the alcohol-related death of a fellow student in November.

Nineteen-year-old Sean Meehan is charged with one count of furnishing a place for minors to consume liquor, resulting in death, and three counts of furnishing a place to consume liquor.

He appeared Tuesday in Cumberland County Superior Court.

Nineteen-year-old Adam Baxter of England died during a school break in the basement of Meehan’s parents’ home in Portland. Baxter was drinking with friends and died after choking on his vomit.

Another Maine student, 21-year-old Anthony Lord, is charged with furnishing liquor to a minor, resulting in death.
