EASTPORT (AP) – Investigators are seeking the cause of a fire that destroyed the Irving Mainway convenience store and gas station in Eastport, leaving nine employees without jobs.

The Wednesday morning blaze sent flames high into the sky and forced employees and customers to flee to the parking lot. There were no reports of injury.

City Manager George “Bud” Finch, who is also a firefighter, said the fire may have started near one of the store’s compressors.

Fire Chief Richard Clark said the fire tripped the main breaker inside the store, easing concerns about the gasoline pumps.
