LEWISTON – Senior Bryan Wholey drained a game-high 20 points as the Bobcats (15-5) ran past Williams 78-71. Brian Ellis scored 17, sophomore Chris Wilson tossed in 16 points and dished seven assists and Jimmy O’Keefe chipped in with 10 points.

For the Ephs (15-6) Joe Geohegan led the way with 17 points and pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. Kevin Snyder added 14 points and Chris Rose scratched together 13 in the loss.

Women’s basketball

Bates 72, Williams 60

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Meg Coffin scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Bates College women’s basketball team to a 72-60 NESCAC road win over Williams College on Friday night.

Bates raised its overall record to 13-8 and its league mark to 3-3, while halting the Ephs’ (15-6, 4-2 NESCAC) five-game winning streak.

Coffin shot 8-for-11 from the field while posting her third straight double-double and her seventh this season.

Junior Val Beckwith allied 16 points on the night for Bates, while senior Sarah Barton added 10 points, six rebounds and a game-high seven assists.

Senior Matia Kostakis scored six points with seven rebounds, and now stands at 994 points in her college career.

Williams’ Mika Peterman led all scorers with 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting.

Hockey

Colby 2, Amherst 1

WATERVILLE – Arthur Fritch scored at 12:33 of the second period to break a 1-1 tie and Colby managed to hold off Amherst for nearly half the game winning 2-1.

T.J. Kelley put the Mules (11-6-1) on the board first scoring a power-play goal in the first period.

Michael McIntosh answered for the Lord Jeffs (10-6-3) ten minutes later on the power-play.

Mules goalie Cody McKinney made 20 saves and Amherst net minder Cole Anderson knocked away 22 shots.

Bowdoin 10, Hamilton 2

BRUNSWICK – Ryan Blossom and Mike Westerman scored two goals apiece as the Polar Bears (14-4) crushed Hamilton 10-2 at Dayton Arena. Bowdoin continues their home unbeaten streak with the win.

Chris Rossi knocked aside 20 shots in the win.

A busy Mark Donovan managed to stop 21 shots for the Continentals (3-15-1).

USM 5, Skidmore 2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The University of Southern Maine Huskies received goals from five different players en route to a 5-2 victory over the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East game Friday night.

The win was the second straight for the Huskies who improve to 13-4-3 overall and 7-4-3 in the league.

The Thoroughbreds lost their second straight to fall to 6-12-2 overall and 3-10-1 in league play.

Sophomore Chris Travis opened the scoring for USM with an unassisted goal at 9:05 of the first period.

Freshman Brett Bandazian equalized for Skidmore with a power-play goal at 10:51.

Junior Matt Rowe gave USM the lead for good when he lit the lamp at 15:09.

For USM, junior Josh Giordani and freshman Jon Rutt each had a pair of assists.

Junior goalie Jamie Gilbert of Lewiston won his ninth game of the season making 19 saves.
