AUBURN – Evangeline R. Michaud, 94, of Ninth Street in Auburn, died Sunday, Feb. 10, at Clover Manor Nursing Home with her five children at her side. She also had spoken to her 14 grandchildren before she passed away.

She was born in Montreal, Canada, on Sept. 26, 1913, a daughter of the late Henri-Louis and Nelida (Lafayette) Saucier. She grew up in Newport, Vt., and graduated from Sacred Heart High School.

She married the love of her life, Laureat Michaud on May 21, 1940, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Newport. He predeceased her on Jan. 2, 1985. She worked for several years at Lamey Wellehan and later for Axton Cross Corp. She was a member of St. Louis Church for more than 40 years, where she was active in the Dames de St. Anne and the Ladies Choir. She also worked at Christmas fairs at the church, volunteering many hours. More recently, she was a member of Holy Cross Church.

She never lost her zest for life, living it to the fullest. The most important thing to her was her family; she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had artistic talents in crafts, knitting and painting. She loved to travel, read, and cook; and particularly enjoyed the company of friends and family.

She leaves a son, Richard (Joan) Michaud of Colorado; four daughters, Jacqueline (Richard) Sawyer of Minnesota, Pauline (Denis) Fortier of Lewiston, Linda (William) Holdway of Colorado, and Joyce Hanson of Auburn; 14 grandchildren, James, Robert and Alicia Sawyer, Renee Kaneta, Robin Murray, Nicole Gaspers, Christopher and Catherine Michaud, Christine Reynolds, Robert and Thomas Fortier and Joel, Jessica and Kathleen Hanson; 13 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Andrew, Kathleen, Lauren, Cailyn, Samuel, Andrew, Emily, Alison, Isabel, Isabella, Paige and Madison; a sister-in-law, Florence Saucier; nephew, John Saucier; and many other nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Lafayette and Lionel; two sisters, Estelle and Muriel; and a son-in-law, Mel Hanson.
