LEWISTON – The Lisa Giguere Scholarship Committee is accepting applications from 2008 graduating seniors at Lewiston High School, Edward Little High School and St. Dominic Regional High School who have an interest in journalism.
The scholarship is in its fourth year and awards up to $2,500 annually to seniors who complete the required application package and meet the following criteria:
• graduating senior in good standing and attending a post-secondary school in the fall of 2008.
• write a 500-word, double-spaced essay demonstrating a desire and conviction to further a career in journalism; and,
• provide letters of recommendation and most recent high school transcript.
Supporting documentation, such as school papers or other writing samples, should be included with the package.
Lisa Giguere was a dedicated journalist with the Sun Journal for 30 years. The award was created by Giguere’s husband, Ralph Tuttle of Auburn, in partnership with the Costello family, publishers of the Sun Journal.
The scholarship was created to identify promising, questioning, young journalists and help them develop their talent and interests.
Applications may be obtained at the high schools, the Sun Journal offices at 104 Park St., or on the Web at www.sunjournal.com/pdfs/scholarshipform07.pdf.
Completed applications are due in the high school’s guidance department by May 2. Scholarships will be awarded at a formal presentation at the Sun Journal offices on Park Street.
The journalism scholarship fund is supported by private donations. Contributions are tax deductible and may be made to the Lisa Giguere Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 4400, Lewiston, ME 04243-4400.
