BRUNSWICK – Harold Weldon Longway, 91, of Durham, died Saturday, Feb. 9, at Parkview Hospital, due to complications from a broken hip. His family was at his side.
Our dad was a quiet man who worked hard and lived a simple life.
In World War II, he fought in the China Theater with the Flying Tigers as a crew chief on the “Maine-ee-ack.” Our dad has a Bronze Star, but he never talked about it or the War, so his stories have gone untold.
He was an honest man who believed in an honest day’s work; buy only what you need and can afford; do not waste time or money; know your neighbors and always vote.
He was not demonstrative with his feelings, but all you had to do was look for the twinkle in his eyes to know he was pleased.
His gardens have gone to seed and the chicken coop houses to cob webs – and memories only.
At 91, dad, you have a family that goes on forever; they all love and miss you, especially Kathy, Pammy, Cary, Josephine and Madelynn.
