BOSTON (AP) – Longtime Boston radio personality Jess Cain has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 81.

Michael Cain says his father died early Thursday at his Beacon Hill home.

Cain hosted the morning show on WHDH-AM for 33 years until his retirement in 1991. He was famous for his song parodies, including “The Yaz Song,” a tribute to Red Sox star Carl Yastrzemski inspired by the team’s 1967 Impossible Dream season.

Michael Cain says his father never had to stoop to innuendoes to make people laugh.

Cain, a native of Philadelphia, was diagnosed with prostate cancer 13 years ago, but remained in good health until last spring. He is survived by his wife, Jean, four children, three grandchildren and two sisters.
