JAY – Letters are to be sent to parents of high school students after vacation announcing the implementation of an online program that will allow parents to check on their students’ academic progress. Eventually, parents at all grade levels will have the option to track their students’ work in school.

Personal identification numbers have been generated, and technical difficulties have been worked out.

Parents would be able to get their child or children’s PIN number to access a school master site, and if a student wanted to see their grades, the parent would be able to pull the site up.

The letter being sent to parents will explain how they should go about accessing their children’s grades, Superintendent Robert Wall said Thursday.

Wall said he thinks it’s important that parents have that connection with their children’s progress in school on a regular basis.

Information technology Director Joe Makley told School Committee members that the start may be a little rocky but things will be worked out as more teachers start to use the electronic grade book.

“This a beginning, and it will evolve,” Wall said. “Our intent is to have all schools have that ability in the future.”
