BOSTON Mass. – Luke Popko netted the game-winner just 10 seconds into the extra session to send Boston University to a 2-1 overtime win over the Black Bears (8-16-3) in a classic Hockey East matchup.

Wes Clark gave the Bears an early lead with his seventh tally of the season when he slid in a rebound past goalie Brett Bennett.

Chris Higgins tied the game for the Terriers (11-14-4) at 11:14 of the first on a short-handed goal that beat Ben Bishop. Bishop ended the game with 31 saves, and Bennett made 17 to pick up his ninth win.

Men’s basketball

Bowdoin 71, Tufts 66

BRUNSWICK – Kyle Jackson recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as Bowdoin edged visiting Tufts 71-66.

With the win the Polar Bears (19-4) tied a school record for victories in a season.

Jordan Fliegel scored 16 points for the Polar Bears, Andrew Hippert netted 15, and Andrew Sargeantson rolled in 14 in the win.

For Tufts, Jon Pierce drained a game-high 22 points, nailing three baskets from beyond the arc. Jake Weitzen grabbed eight boards and chipped in 14 points, and Dave Beyel scored 13 .

The Jumbos hung with Bowdoin throughout, but the Polar Bears went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line with less than a minute remaining to seal the victory.

Colby 68, Bates 65

WATERVILLE – Adam Choice scored a team-high 18 points and made a key blocked in the final minutes as Colby scooted past Bates 68-65 in NESCAC play.

Mark Gaudet chipped in with 14 points for the Mules (12-11) and Michael Russell added 13 in the win.

Bryan Wholey poured in a game-high 19, including 8-of-10 from the line for the Bobcats (16-7). Bates led by one at the half, but was unable to hold on after the break.

Chris Wilson swiped 16 points and Sean Wirth chipped in with 10 in the loss. Both shot 50 percent from the floor.

Women’s basketball

Tufts 83, Bowdoin 56

MEDFORD Mass. – Khalilah Ummah pulled down 12 rebounds and drained a game-high 20 points as host Tufts crushed Bowdoin 83-56.

Jenna Gomez added 19 for the Jumbos (20-2).

Katie Bergeron (15 points) and Alexa Kaubris (13 points) drained three 3-pointers apiece for the Polar Bears (17-6), but it was not enough as Tufts easily rolled and picked up a team record for wins in a season.

Caitlyn Hynes added 11 in the loss.

Bates 77, Colby 64

LEWISTON – Meg Coffin drained 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Bates to a 77-64 victory over Colby.

Val Beckwith added 19 and dished six helpers in the Bobcats’ (14-9) win.

Alison Cappelloni poured in a game-high 29 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Mules (8-14)

Matia Kostakis chipped in 10 points for the Bobcats and Lauren Yanofsky was 4-for-5 with 11 points in 14 minutes.

Colby’s Karlyn Adler scored 12 in the loss.
