NORWAY – The Western Foothills Land Trust has announced its largest donation to date toward the purchase of land planned for a town recreational park.

Grover Gundrilling, a precision deep-hole drilling company located in Norway, has pledged $20,000 toward the creation of the Roberts Farm preserve on Pike’s Hill.

The land trust purchased the 150-acre parcel of land last year from the Growth Council of Oxford Hills after a technology park planned for the site failed to materialize. The trust plans to open recreational trails on the land and is raising funds to cover the $310,000 purchase.

According to its Web site, the land trust has raised more than $100,000 toward the project.

The trust has also selected Mike Cooper and Associates of Bethel to design the trails. Plans call for initial construction to begin this summer, with three or more kilometers of trails open by next winter.

The trust is also planning to hold a triathlon in Norway on July 19, with proceeds benefiting the preserve.
