NORWAY – Break out the hooks, lines and sinkers.
The Norway-Paris Fish and Game Association will set up shop at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Lake Pennesseewassee this weekend for its 38th annual ice fishing derby.
The event will go from 7 a.m. to sunset on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets, which cost $1 a piece, are available for purchase at Woodman’s Sporting Goods in Norway, Smedberg’s Crystal Spring Farm in Oxford, and Dag’s Bait Shop in Auburn. Tickets may also be purchased from club members or at the schoolhouse on the day of the event.
Jim Alberi, an organizer for the event, said the club will assist in drilling holes on the lake, although people may bring catches from other area lakes to the schoolhouse for weighing.
A $50 prize will be awarded for the largest fish in each of six categories: brook trout and splake, brown trout, lake trout, salmon, pickerel and bass.
“We have a lot of consolation prizes,” Alberi said.
Any child under the age of 12 who hooks a fish will be awarded a prize; they will also be given trophies for catching the largest fish in the six categories and a prize for the largest fish of any species.
Ticket-holders are also eligible for raffle prizes. Food, including hamburgers, hot dogs, desserts and beverages, will be available for purchase at the schoolhouse.
Participants are required to have a fishing license.
