WATERVILLE – Robbie Leeman converted on a pass from Jordan Bourgoin at 5:12 of overtime to lift Lewiston to a 5-4 win over Brewer in the KVAC championship hockey game at Colby College’s Alfond Arena on Friday.
Leeman’s strike came right after the Witches had a chance to win it on the other end on a Lewiston turnover behind its own net. The Witches centered the puck, but Lewiston netminder Alex Lafreniere turned the shot aside, sending the Devils in the other direction.
Brewer actually led 4-3 late in the third, until Lewiston took its time, called a timeout and converted on a late power play chance to even things up, That Jon Roy goal, his second of the game, came at 10:47 of the third, and forced the overtime period.
Both teams used two goalies in the game. Lewiston started Cam Poussard, who made eight saves on eight shots. Brewer’s Eric White allowed just one goal on 12 shots he faced before giving way to Kayla Dunn.
Roy’s two goals equaled the pair by Brewer junior Dylan Fitzpatrick. The Blue Devils also got goals from freshman Sam Cloutier and senior Matt Letourneau. Matt Helfen and Ryan Nadeau had goals for Brewer, the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class A playoffs. Lewiston faces the winner of Messalonskee and Cony on Monday, while Brewer hosts Brunswick.
