GARDNER, Mass. (AP) – No criminal charges will be filed in the death of a 6-month-old Gardner girl last summer.

Natalie Baez was found unresponsive in her mother’s basement apartment on August 25 by Gardner police.

A statement issued Monday from Worcester District Attorney Joe Early says the investigation into the infant’s death hasn’t produced any evidence that would support criminal charges.

The state medical examiner previously determined the cause of death to be swelling of the brain.

State child welfare officials had visited the family last year, but there were no allegations of abuse and no action was taken.
