FARMINGTON – A public hearing on proposed amendments to the town’s zoning ordinance will be held during tonight’s selectmen’s meeting.
The amendments regard off-street parking, said Town Manager Richard Davis on Monday. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the town office.
The amendments would give the planning board some flexibility on regulations for entities that have enough parking or access to parking, Davis said. Established off-street parking could count toward a new project.
The board now has to base its decisions on the number of parking spaces needed for anticipated use, he said.
An example, he said, for the University of Maine at Farmington’s proposed Performing Arts Center, the ordinance requires one parking space for every four seats in the building. If the center seats 100 then 25 parking spaces are needed, but with UMF’s established parking on Middle Street and other campus areas, the board could be more flexible about how many spaces actually need to be created for the center, he said.
The amendments are on the warrant for the town’s annual meeting in March, he added.
The board also plans to recognize the Public Works Department for the response given to recent storms and to discuss other business.
