KINGFIELD – Voters will be asked to raise $225,495 to fund expenses for the Kingfield Tax Increment Financing and Development District during 2008. It is projected that revenue from the district will be equal to or greater than the amount appropriated for development program purposes as stated in the town warrant.

The town meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Kingfield Elementary School.

The TIF district was established in 2007 for Poland Spring’s new plant. The plant’s estimated value as of April 1, is $20 million, said Administrative Assistant Greg Davis. Tax revenue is expected to be about $242,000. From that amount, voters will be asked to appropriate the $225,495 to fund a $127,995 rebate per the credit enhancement agreement with Nestle Waters, an estimated $78,000 in bond payments for a subsurface waste system and $19,500 in other TIF expenditures.

Voters will also consider accepting a $25,000 community playground grant from the Maine Land and Water Conservation Fund and giving selectmen the authority to sign agreements to secure the grant.

New this year, voters will be asked to raise $2,600 for retirement benefits for full-time employees, Davis said.

“It’s early to see what the town expenses will mean to the tax rate,” Davis said, “but I don’t expect to see a tax increase.”

There are no contested races for town positions, said Town Clerk Stacie-Marie Rundlett.

Seeking re-election are Selectman Neal McCurdy and SAD 58 Director Kim Jordan.
