New team in Olympics
RUMFORD – A new Special Olympics team in the area, Team Opportunities, participated in the recent winter games held at Sugarloaf/USA in Carrabassett Valley.
The team is coached by Melody Hoover, assisted by Clemma Nichols. Members of Team Opportunities are Heather Hodsdon, Nick Jones, Christine Morin, Wesley Wotton and Lee Spaulding.
The team participated in the 100-meter and 500-meter cross country skiing events, bringing home medals and ribbons. Each event is separated by age groups and level of skill. There was also a victory banquet and dance.
Team Opportunities also participates in the Oxford County bowling tournament, and the county and state swim meets and will be training for the summer games. Each event costs money for travel, lodging and other incidentals.
Team Opportunities will have fundraisers in the near future: bake sales, raffle tickets, donation buckets at local businesses and a lawn sale. Individuals or businesses who would like to help the team should call Clemma Nichols at 364-8622 or send donations to PO Box 2, Rumford, ME 04276.
