WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) – Waterbury police say the body of a man in his mid-20s has been found floating in the Mad River.
The body was found Monday night by the East Liberty Street Bridge in the city’s South End. Police say the man’s identity is not known and an autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.
Eighteen-year-old Jose Santiago says he was walking on River Street when a woman and a young boy standing on the bridge yelled to him. He says he ran to the edge of the bridge and looked down and saw the body.
Police say investigators believe the man had been in the river for days, possibly since before last Friday’s snowstorm.
