BETHEL – The Oxford County Democratic Committee will hold a post-caucus meeting from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Crescent Park School, Crescent Lane. The meeting is open to all interested in electing Democrats in 2008.
The agenda will include an introduction of the candidates for legislative and county office, reports from the Tom Allen for Senate and Mike Michaud for Congress campaigns, information on the Democratic State Convention to be held on May 30 and 31 in Augusta, and an opportunity for regional planning in small group sessions.
Candidates expected to attend are Mexico lawyer Paul Dumas Jr., who has more than 30 years of experience in the law in Maine, seeking the office of judge of probate; Norway lawyer Bruce Rood, with 20 years of legal experience and community service in the Oxford Hills, seeking the office of register of probate; Charleen Chase of Bethel, retired head of Community Concepts Inc. and member of the board of Central Maine Power, seeking election as county commissioner in District 1; and Rep. John Patrick of Rumford, who has eight years of experience in the legislature, service on the SAD 43 board and president of Local 900, seeking election as county commissioner in District 2.
Legislative candidates include Sen. Bruce Bryant of Dixfield, seeking re-election in District 14; Lisa R. Villa, Harrison selectwoman, seeking election to Senate District 13; Rep. Tim Carter of Bethel, seeking re-election in District 91; Matthew Peterson of Rumford, seeking election in District 92; Rep. Sheryl Briggs of Mexico, seeking re-election in District 93; Rep. Terry Hayes of Buckfield, seeking re-election in District 94; Russell Newcomb, Norway head selectman, seeking election in District 95; Rep. Larry Sirois, retired teacher, seeking re-election in District 96; Helen Rankin of Hiram, advocate for school nutrition programs, seeking election in District 97; Megan Crawford of Harrison, seeking election in District 98; and James Bradley of Mechanic Falls, employed at USM, seeking election in District 100.
