Lewiston – Margaret G. Wing, 85, of 115 Vale St., died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, March 1, the Welsh holiday St. David’s Day.

She was born in Anglesey, Wales, U.K., on Nov. 16, 1922, a daughter of Richard and Grace (Thomas) Williams. She was educated in Wales and settled in the United States as a WWII bride with her husband, Robert L. Wing, whom she married on Nov. 7, 1944. He passed away May 20, 1997.

She worked as a dietician for 29 years at Central Maine Medical Center, until her retirement in 1985. Shortly thereafter, she went back to work at Bates College dining services where she was employed for 20 years.

She was a longtime, pious and active member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Auburn, the Womens’ Literary Union, the Garden Club (where she was a past president), The Golden Nuggets Seniors’ Group at St. Michael’s Church and The British War Brides of America.

Margaret was very proud of her Welsh nationality and made sure that her family in the U.S. never lost touch with their Welsh cousins. She traveled yearly to Wales in her later years and was the last representative of her generation to her family there.

She adored her daughters, grandsons, and great-granddaughters and always put her family first. She prized education, and generously supported the studies of her grandchildren. Among her favorite enjoyments were knitting and doing sewing repairs for friends and family.

She was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be sadly missed by her family, friends and her extended family at church and at work.

She leaves two daughters, Joan Hutchinson of Wales, Me., and Ann McKenney and husband, David, of Lewiston; four grandsons, Robert and Stacy Hutchinson of Eau Claire, Wis., Jason and wife, Jennifer Hutchinson, of Turlock, Calif., Matthew and wife, Wendy McKenney, of Topsham, and Dylan McKenney and expectant wife, Beth O’Malley, of Portland; five great-granddaughters, Reanna and Kaylie Hutchinson, Emilia and Brynn McKenney, and Sabine McKenney O’Malley; several nieces and nephews; and a son-in-law, Wilmuth Hutchinson of Hebron.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wing, and five brothers and sisters, all of Wales in the U.K.
