The teams are off! The freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors are all fighting for the top…Who would win?
Here at Monmouth Academy, Winter Carnival has hit and passed all the students. Starting on February 11th and ending on the 15th, students try to get to the top. By earning points for everything, and having tons of activities to get those points, this certainly led to a fun week.
On the first day of Winter Carnival, students were either playing indoor soccer for points, playing scrabble with one another, or just hanging out decorating their halls according to the class themes…that’s what I was doing, decorating the freshman hall.
Since I was a freshman, it was up to me to handle the class, assigning people to various activities and organizing lists for what needed to be done. It was up to me to start drawing for the hallway.
The other after school activities were set up as follows: Day two-Ultimate Frisbee; Day three—Volleyball; and Day four—Floor Hockey. Each activity was to have an equal number of girls and boys playing. On Day Five—let’s just say there were a lot of activities, but it was a whole lot of fun…(note: due to two snow days, we did not end up having activities on days three and four!)
Out of the whole week, Day 5—Friday—was the best! This day included activities all day, with no classes. We had the following activities and challenges: Academy Bowl, Musical Chairs, Egg Toss, Frozen T-shirt contest, Three legged race, Four-square volleyball, Knockout, Holding a gallon jug above the head, Ping pong tournament, arm wrestling, tug of war, pie-eating, find the gum in the whipped cream, cracker eating, apple bobbing, cake decorating, skit performances, and to end the day we have a three part relay madness. I wish all week was like this!
Asking people how they felt throughout the whole week, peoples’ answers were pretty much the same: “I thought it was fun, especially watching the skits. They were really awesome!”
Exploring this fun week (as a freshman) was awesome. I hope that my thoughts are the same as many others…(The seniors did end out winning this year’s winter carnival…but who knows for next year???)
