FARMINGTON – The benefit to help House of Peace with winter bills fell victim to the weather Saturday.
The ham and turkey dinner and local entertainment drew no takers because of the weather, said Sharon Walker, who runs the shelter for domestic violence victims. Walker will try again. The meal, entertainment and auction has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church on Farmington Falls Road.
Entertainment will be provided by singers Sammie Angel of Dixfield and Tammy Schmersal of Mexico. Terry Moore, who has a bluegrass band, will also perform.
Items donated by businesses in the Farmington and Rumford area will go on the auction block with Jeff Harris as auctioneer, she said.
The shelter provides housing and meals for up to three women and children during the winter and serves women in Franklin and Oxford counties. Although connected with some churches, the house is independent and depends on private donations, she said.
The public is welcome to attend Sunday’s benefit at $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
