LEWISTON – A delivery truck came to an abrupt halt late Tuesday afternoon when a piece of electrical equipment it was hauling got caught up on a train trestle on Main Street.

Police contacted the railroad companies and advised them to slow trains expected to pass through Lewiston.

The rig became hung up about 5:30 p.m. as the driver was heading toward Greene on Main Street, police said.

A pair of tall electrical components on the flatbed snagged the railings beneath the trestle near Marden’s. When the driver realized the equipment had struck the trestle, he came to a stop beneath the span.

Nobody was hurt, police said, and there was no structural damage to the trestle. The driver of the Bennett Motor Express rig was hauling a large piece of equipment, similar to a transformer, for Central Maine Power Co.

Police directed traffic around the scene as the driver of the rig let air out of his tires, which dropped the truck enough so that it could be towed away from the trestle.

Bennett is a Georgia-based company that specializes in the delivery of heavy equipment. The driver’s name was not immediately available.
