HARRISON – State police and Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday night were investigating the death of an infant who apparently drowned when the mother fell asleep with the child in a bathtub.

Sheriff’s officials went to the 12 Mill St. home about 7 p.m. when it was reported the child was dead and the mother was trying to kill herself, a police source said.

It was also reported that the baby’s father was on the way to the home after learning about the drowning.

The identities of those involved were not released.

A dispatcher at the Sheriff’s Office said information about the incident would be released by Sheriff Mark Dion, who was not available late Wednesday night.

As the investigation got under way, Maine State Police were contacted about the death and were sending detectives to the home.
