INDUSTRY – Voters face 43 articles at Saturday’s annual town meeting. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Industry Town Hall for voters to elect one selectman for a three-year term. Lee Ireland is seeking re-election with no one opposing him, said Town Clerk Angelina Davis.
The meeting will convene at 2 p.m. at town hall to take up the articles pertaining mostly to regular town business, Davis said.
Voters will be asked to consider a pay raise for some town positions, she said. Selectmen are seeking a $1,500 increase in their salaries. The first selectman now gets $2,500, while second and third selectmen get $2,000.
An increase of $1,500 is also being requested for the town clerk and treasurer. The increase would bring each position from $3,500 to $5,000 annually.
Wages of $2,150 for the recycling attendant include a $500 raise, she said.
The amount allotted for winter roads includes an extra $20,000, she said. The town will be asked to approve $60,000 for the care and maintenance of winter roads and $100,000 for summer roads.
An additional $25,000 for paving roads will also be decided.
The summer road account is part of a plan to improve roads voted on last year. This would be the second year of five in that plan, Selectman Mike Senecal said.
“The meeting should be fairly quiet,” Senecal said. He expects people will want to talk about the roads and the increases in salary. “The great thing about town meeting is it’s up to the people. They can ask questions and decide.”
