Cheer Challenge draws 40 teams

AUGUSTA – Fortier Family Cheer Center and the Planet Cheer Parents Association hosted the fourth annual State Capitol Cheer Challenge on Feb. 9 at the Augusta Civic Center.

The competition catered to recreation cheer and dance teams from all over central and southern Maine. The event attracted 40 teams.

In addition to individual and team awards, grand champion jackets were presented to the team with the highest overall score of the day. The LA Stars Level II from LAYCL earned the top honor.

In addition to the competition, Planet Cheer utilizes the event as a fundraiser and education outreach opportunity for the American Diabetes Association. Representatives from the association were available throughout the day, distributing information on diabetes, including what preventative steps can be taken to offset the debilitating effects of the disease.

Following the awards ceremony, Planet Cheer presented the American Diabetes Association with a check for $800.
