Dear Sun Spots: About four weeks ago I purchased a gift certificate at Jacoby’s Restaurant (formerly Trolley House) in Norway. Since then they have closed.

How would one contact them for a refund of the certificate?

I would appreciate any help you can provide. – No name, Hebron

Answer: According to the Oxford Hills Area Chamber of Commerce, your gift certificate can be redeemed at Maurice Restaurant Francais in neighboring Paris. If you’d like to make a reservation, or have questions about the gift certificate, call the restaurant at 743-2532. If you decide to dine there, Sun Spots recommends the Caesar salad, an utterly delicious salad made to order at your tableside.

Dear Sun Spots: On Feb. 20 there was a letter from a woman on Minot Avenue in Auburn looking for yarn for the Catholic Charities. I went on vacation and misplaced her name, phone number and address. I have some yarn to donate.

Could you please print that information again? – No name, no town.

Answer: The February letter was from Phoebe Lowell, program director for SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope), which is part of Catholic Charities of Maine. The address is 270 Minot Ave., Auburn, ME 04210. The agency is seeking donations of 4-ply yarn of all colors and in good condition. They will provide all donations of yarn to their 20 volunteers who knit and crochet hats, scarves, slippers, mittens, baby clothing, lap robes and other warm objects, which in turn are given to the needy of all ages in Androscoggin County.

If you need more information, please call SEARCH at 784-0157.

Dear Sun Spots: I’d like to know if I can have the recipe for spaghetti sauce and meatballs served at Luigi’s Pizzeria on Sabattus Street in Lewiston. The stuff they use to make the food and how they make it.

I’d like to know if they freeze the meatballs before they put them in the sauce.

They have the absolute best meatballs and spaghetti sauce I have ever tasted.

Any help would be appreciated. – E.F., Lewiston

Answer: According to Luigi’s owner Beverly Derosier, the spaghetti sauce is an authentic Italian recipe handed down from the original owner’s mother, who was born in Italy. It’s also a secret.

The kitchen staff makes the sauce every day, cooking it for hours before it moves to a different part of the kitchen where the meatballs are added. The sauce and meatballs (the meatballs are not frozen before they go in the pot) cook together for several more hours before the food is served.

Dear Sun Spots: I want to thank everyone who responded with donations of wool for my rug braiding course. I received some really beautiful colored wool that I haven’t seen. I want to especially thank two women, one in Turner and the other in Lewiston, for beautiful donated fabric. I promise to think of you both as I braid my rugs. – Terry, Sabattus
