LEWISTON – Lewiston Area Youth Hockey League will be sponsoring Midget Minor (birth date 1992-1993) and Midget Major (1990-1991) teams this fall. The league is offeringare offering these teams to allow midget age players the opportunity to play midget hockey in Lewiston and not have to travel.

The schedule will be one full ice practice per week and one game on either Saturday or Sunday. This will allow the players to continue with a fall sport and still sharpen their hockey skills. The teams will compete in the Maine State Midget divisions.Team names will be L/A Midgets. Coaches will be Bob Parker (Major) and Greg Bourgoin (Minor).

There will be an open tryout this Thursday, March 13 at Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Minors begin at 6:50 p.m., with Majors at 8 p.m. Cost of the tryout is $15.

Coaches will be selecting teams with the help of an evaluator. They hope to select 18 skaters and two goalies for each team. The season will start in the middle of August and end the second or third week of November. Cost to play will be apprroximately $425, with a final amount to be finalized. A non-refundable partial assessment of $100 must be paid April 30 to secure your spot on the team. The balance must be paid by August 17.

Umpires clinic tonight

LEWISTON – The first clinic for softball umpires will be held Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Lewiston Armory.

Norm Davis from the ASA National Staff will preside at this meeting. He will go over rule changes for 2008, as well as new mechanics for this upcoming season. All are welcome.
