FARMINGTON – Carl Stinchfield has served the county for nearly 15 years and has been Franklin County Detention Center assistant administrator since 1999. Now he plans to retire.

Stinchfield, of Strong, told county commissioners Tuesday that his retirement date is “six weeks and a day” away.

“We’re going to miss you, Carl, when you’re gone,” Commissioner Gary McGrane of Jay said. “We miss you already.”

Prior to his corrections service in Maine, Stinchfield was a sheriff’s deputy for 20 years in Arizona.

“I’m retiring for personal and health reasons,” Stinchfield said after the meeting.

He plans to spend more time with his family, including his wife of 42 years, Jessie, and expects to do some volunteering in civic matters and probably do some work with the historical society.

He has seen a lot of changes during his time in corrections, and not all of it good.

“I’ve seen that corrections is becoming more difficult. We’re dealing with more mental health issues, and trying to predict a budget is nearly impossible.”

Stinchfield’s position will be posted in-house and advertised at the same time.
