FARMINGTON – An application for a grant to provide trees and shrubs for the playground planned at Hippach Field was approved by selectmen on Tuesday.
The Conservation Commission is applying for a $3,400 grant, commission Chairwoman Bobbie Hanstein told the board. A 50/50 match is required, but the playground committee has already raised more than $40,000 in donations of money, equipment and materials, she said.
Project Canopy grants are available for developing and implementing forestry projects and programs through the Maine Forest Service with provision from the federal government.
The board signed a letter of support for the grant, which would provide landscaping and trees planted around the playground area. The Conservation Commission would administer the grant and be responsible for maintaining the trees, she said.
The board elected Stephan Bunker as its chairman. Jon Bubier was elected vice chairman and Dennis Pike, the board’s recording secretary.
The board also transferred $105,000 from the Fire Equipment Reserve Account to the undesignated fund balance. Money was placed in the reserve account after the sale of the fire department’s ladder truck to Livermore Falls last year. The balance left in the reserve account is $30,741, Town Manager Richard Davis said.
The board will not meet March 25; the next session is at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the town office.
