For Holy Week

NORWAY – Holy week activities will begin at the Second Congregational Church, 205 Main St., with a 10 a.m. Palm Sunday worship on March 16.

Parishioners will be greeted with an introit of “The Palms,” with the church school children waving and delivering palms to all in the sanctuary. The Rev. Joanne Painter of Casco will conduct all worship services during Holy Week.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, March 20, there will be a free soup supper with bread prepared by the church school children, followed by a 6:30 Service of Tenebrae and Communion.

Members and friends of the Second Congregational Church will participate in a Good Friday walk on Friday, March 21. The event will begin at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1 p.m. and stop at each church until the group reaches Trinity Lutheran Church in Paris.

On Saturday, March 22, the Second Congregational Church will participate in the Community Easter Fest. There will be games, food and a treasure hunt.

The church will participate with the United Methodist Church and the First Congregational Church, Paris, in a 6:30 a.m. sunrise service and breakfast on Easter Sunday, March 23. This year the service and breakfast will be held at the First Congregational Church.

At 10 a.m. Painter will lead a traditional Easter worship service in the sanctuary.

The Second Congregational Church is a member of the United Church of Christ. All are invited to worship. Worship, church school and nursery are at 10 a.m. each Sunday. For more information, call 743-2290 or visit www.seconchyouth.org.

Trinity Lutheran

PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, will celebrate Palm Sunday on March 16 at a 10:15 a.m. worship service. Sunday school and adult Bible study, “Making the Old Story Our Story,” will be held at 9 a.m.

Free Baptist

OTISFIELD – Holy week services at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church on the Rayville Road will begin on Thursday, March 20, with a potluck supper in the fellowship hall, followed by a Maundy Thursday service. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the service beginning at 7.

There will be two services on Easter Sunday. The first will be a 6:30 a.m. sunrise service at the home of Jean Hankins, Scribner Hill Road. Easter Sunday service at the church on the Rayville Road is scheduled for 10 a.m. and all are welcome.

Easter egg hunt

WEST PARIS – The Friends of the West Paris Library will sponsor an Easter egg hunt for West Paris toddlers through first-graders at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at the library. The children should bring a basket or other container for their eggs and should be accompanied by an adult.

There will be a gift for each child, in addition to the Easter eggs found during the hunt. The lucky finder of one marked egg will receive a special prize. The festivities will conclude with a short story time.

Churches join

NORTH WATERFORD – The Rev. George Frobig invites all members and friends of the Oxford County United Parish churches in North Waterford and Stoneham to join in services for Holy week, beginning with a Palm Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. March 16 at the North Waterford Congregational Church, located off Routes 35 and 37.

A Maundy Thursday supper will be held at 6 p.m. March 20 at the North Waterford Church vestry. The simple supper will be followed by a seder meal service and Holy Communion.

On Holy Saturday, March 22, a pancake and maple syrup breakfast will be held at the North Waterford church vestry at 8 a.m. The menu will include pancakes, sausage, baked beans, juice and coffee. Proceeds will go to the steeple fund. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

On Easter Sunday a sunrise service will be jointly conducted with Waterford Congregational Church at 6:30 a.m. at Keoka Lake town beach, followed by Easter breakfast at the North Waterford church vestry. Easter Sunday worship service will be held at 10 a.m. at the North Waterford church.

First Universalist

PARIS – The Palm Sunday service on March 16 at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St. will be conducted by Shirley Miller at 10 a.m. Music will be under the direction of Forest Perkins and the Sunday school under the direction of Renee Wales. Child care is available. Coffee and fellowship will follow worship.
