BANGOR – Randy Whitehouse, veteran sportswriter for the Sun Journal, was honored Friday night by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.

Whitehouse was awarded the MABC’s annual Media Award at the 2008 Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games banquet at Husson College.

“Randy Whitehouse has become one of the top sports journalists in the state,” MABC President Jim Seavey said in a statement. “During 15 years of writing for the Lewiston Sun Journal, Randy has been committed to highlighting high school sports in Maine. We are honoring him this weekend for his great commitment to high school basketball in the state.”

In addition to covering high school boys’ basketball, Whitehouse’s beats at the Sun Journal include high school football and high school baseball.

Also honored at the MABC Awards Banquet were members of the All-State Academic Team, the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Players, All-Star Coaches and the MABC Contributor Award honoree. Ryan Martin of Maranacook and Cony’s Rachael Mack were named Mr. and Miss Basketball as the state’s top high school senior basketball players.
