Garden club

AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. Laurie Ouellette, owner of Sweet Pea Designs, will bring a touch of the tropics as she demonstrates flower arranging.

Ouellette is a wedding planner and floral designer. She works with mostly tropical flowers in upscale designs. She also works with traditional flowers and designs with a twist. Her specialty is wedding and funeral work.

Ouellette has been a floral designer for more than 20 years and has owned her own flower shop since 2004.

Hospitality will be provided by Kirsten Larsson-Turley. Refreshments will be served and guests are welcome.

OES to install

AUBURN – A new slate of officers for Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will be installed at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

Ellen Broas will be installed worthy matron and Stephen Broas, worthy patron. Stephanie Dupal, District 4 deputy grand matron, will be installing matron, assisted by Samuel Kelly, past patron, as installing patron. Other installing officers will be Edward Webber, marshal; Josephine Dupal, grand Martha, chaplain; Susan Glines, organist; and Ellen Broas, Star Point Ceremony.

Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the installation. All Eastern Star members, Masons and friends are welcome.

Easter service

AUBURN – There will be a 10 a.m. service on Easter Sunday, March 23, at the Sixth Street Congregational Church, 109 Sixth St.

A brass quintet will play from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. There will be a continental breakfast. Everyone is welcome.

Board to meet

LEWISTON – The CDS-Androscoggin County Governing Board will meet from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. Thursday, March 27, at Child Development Services, 1567 Lisbon St. All interested parents and community providers are welcome. Persons requiring special accommodations may call 795-4022 to make arrangements.

Knitting workshop

NEW GLOUCESTER – A workshop on knitting a basic sock using essential techniques will be held on Saturday, April 19, at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26. The fee is $40, including yarn. Call 926-4597 or visit www.shaker.lib.me.us for more information.

Inducted in NHS

PORTLAND – The following local Cheverus High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society at a ceremony held in the Cheverus Keegan Gym recently: Juniors: Bethany Potter of Auburn, Christine Renaud of Lisbon Falls and Angela Fouquette of New Gloucester.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on March 17 were: first, Marlene and Conrad Violette; second, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; third, Alberta Turner and Luke Merry; fourth, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings.

Games are played at 9 a.m. Mondays and a partner is guaranteed. Call Rosemarie Goodwin at 754-1431 for information about all duplicate bridge games.
