Dear Sun Spots: The Pine Tree Warriors Drum and Bugle Corps provided welcomed music from 1959 to 1989 along America’s East Coast. Tuesday night, March 25, at 7 p.m. at the Androscoggin Historical Society’s meeting room on the third floor of the County Building, 2 Court St., Bert Dutil will share memories about this Maine-based unit. We wish to invite former members and their families to come to this free event and remember the stirring drum beats, football field shows, and parades galore. Come support Bert and his many volunteers who made these memories possible. The County Building is wheelchair accessible, and there is an elevator to the third floor. – Dennis Stires, Androscoggin Historical Society president

Dear Sun Spots: For the reader seeking information on how to keep your front loader washing machines from smelling, I use Smellywasher, which may be ordered at www.smellywasher.com. It may be ordered online and paid for with Pay Pal, credit card, check or money order. A year’s supply was $16 and I received the order within three days. It has done wonders for my washer. No Name, No Town.

Answer: Thank you for the helpful information! If you are paying with a check or money order, make it payable to Laundry Specialists and send it to Laundry Specialists, P.O. Box 502, Savage, MN 55378. Be sure to add in a $3 shipping charge for one to two orders. There is no shipping charge for orders of three or more. Orders are normally processed the day ordered and sent via first class postal service the following business day. They may also be reached by calling (952) 465-6444.

According to the Web site, Smellywasher was invented by Paul Flynn, a former appliance repair technician who wanted an inexpensive cleaner that would easily remove odor-causing detergent, fungus and mold buildup from clothes washers without using harsh chemicals. It should be noted that the cleaner used to be called Purewasher. It is shipped in a plastic bottle, with the bottle lid also serving as a measuring cup. One level cap full is perfect for one treatment. Each bottle contains enough for 24 treatments. According to Flynn, one order will last up to a year. All it takes is one tablespoon added to a hot cycle with no clothing and let the washer complete its cycle.
