RUMFORD – Selectmen are expected to take up some routine business, ranging from appointing a new police officer to considering a request to make a portion of York Street one way, when they meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Municipal Auditorium.

Town Manager Jim Doar said SAD 43 has asked that a section of York Street be changed to one way in front of Rumford Elementary School as a safety measure. In another school-related matter, the board will act on a request to pay to send local high school girls to Girls State.

Also, the board will act on requests to approve a liquor license and entertainment permit for The Shak, a liquor license for Brian’s Bistro, and a license for Mr. and Mrs. Sausage.

Appointment of police officer Jennifer Kramer is expected, as are updates on snow removal from the town’s 200-plus fire hydrants and on a plan to apply for a grant that would provide trees in the town.

Other agenda items include financial and tax collector reports, a planning session and approval to prosecute the owners of unlicensed dogs.

A closed session is scheduled at the end of the meeting to take up a complaint lodged by resident Jim Barnett against Public Works Director Andy Russell.
