FALMOUTH – Maine State Ballet will host a performance by the White Mountain Dance Ensemble Saturday, March 29, at the Maine State Ballet Theater.

The White Mountain Dance Ensemble is the first and only professional modern dance company in the Mount Washington Valley. Five dancer friends, all independent choreographers from various dance backgrounds, formed WMDE in February 2007. Their common thread: they either taught and/or trained at the Jeanne Limmer Dance Center in North Conway, N.H.

The ensemble’s Gretchen Brown and John Pina are both former Maine State Ballet company dancers. Brown was a dance teacher at Maine State Ballet School, as well as a featured performer in MSB’s company. She has been featured in such notable roles as Dew Drop Fairy in “The Nutcracker, as well as Alice in “Alice in Wonderland.” Pina was featured as the Gypsy King in “Don Quixote” and as the Cheshire Cat in “Alice in Wonderland.” They join fellow dancers Samantha Hounsell, Lori Richardson and Danielle Bento.

The WMDE dancers, who have opened a new space on Main Street in Conway N.H., will perform “Exposed” at Maine State Ballet School. Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. To reserve tickets, call 781-7672.
