BRAINTREE, Mass. (AP) – Massachusetts lottery officials say they are “thrilled” with sales of the “Billion Dollar Blockbuster” scratch ticket, which so far have surpassed a half billion dollars.
The lottery has sold 25 million of the $20 tickets since they went on sale on Sept. 25. That’s an average of $2 million in sales per day.
Lottery Executive Director Mark Cavanagh says the game is a big reason why the lottery is on pace for record sales for the 2008 fiscal year.
“Billion Dollar Blockbuster” features the highest prize payouts in the history of all U.S. lotteries.
The game features 22 million winning tickets, including 130 instant prizes of $1 million, 10 instant prizes of $10 million and a grand prize of $1 million per year for life.
