LIVERMORE – The Tri-Town (Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay) Community Action Group met on March 12 at the Livermore Town Office when State Trooper Mike Chavez updated them on criminal activities in the area over the past two months.

Members discussed speakers for upcoming meetings, as well as community projects. Livermore Fire Chief Don Castonguay spoke on the work the fire department is doing and the training necessary for members to perform their duties.

Castonguay expressed an interest in setting up a fire department auxiliary to bring hot coffee, water and food to the scene of large fires. He encouraged anyone interested in becoming a member of an auxiliary to contact him at 897-4989 or Rene Grondin at 897-5501.

At the end of the meeting, Castonguay gave members a tour of the Livermore Fire Station and explained the equipment and vehicles available in the department.

The group is working on a call list for the three communities. It will enable word to be spread and assistance to be available quickly in the event of dangerous fires, hazardous spills and emissions, criminal activities in the area, local disasters or dangerous animals running loose in a neighborhood.

They are also compiling a master list of people who neighbors should check on in the event of adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures and power outages.

The group will have point people to receive the information from agencies, such as the fire departments, law enforcement and the warden service. Those people will, in turn, contact several other people, which will activate a calling tree to enable word to be spread quickly.

Those interested in being a point person or those who know a person who should be added to the master list to check on neighbors should call Rene Grondin at 897-5501, Harold Newcomb at 897-3883 or Bonnie Perkins of the Jay-Livermore-Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce at 897-6755.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Livermore Falls Town Office. All residents are encouraged to attend.
