LEWISTON – A free caregiver workshop, “Advanced Care Planning: Considerations for Medical Decision-Making for People with Advanced Dementia,” will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 4, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road, Fairgrounds Business Complex.
Preregistration is required as space is limited. Contact Kathy Brill, 1-800-427-1241, ext. 133. Caregivers and family of a loved one who is above the age of 18 and is disabled or elderly should attend.
An interactive presentation will by given by Dr. Elizabeth Balsam Hart, geriatric physician with extensive knowledge and practice in working with patients who have dementia.
The discussion will describe the most common anticipated paths of end-of-life decline and the dying process for people with dementia as a way to frame questions that help determine goals of care.
The workshop is being sponsored by the Office of Elder Services, with funding from the Administration on Aging and in collaboration with SeniorsPlus, local agency on aging.
