BRIDGTON – The Shawnee Peak Ski Area will remain open for an extra weekend if it can generate enough ticket sales by the end of the week.

The resort is hoping to sell 300 lift tickets by 8 p.m. Friday. If it does, it will remain open April 5 and 6. “The idea is to see if there is really demand out there,” said Melissa Rock, Shawnee’s marketing director.

Although the resort usually closes after the last weekend in March, Rock said the winter has left the resort well supplied with snow, with some trails having base depths of three feet or more. Rock said she expects that 95 to 100 percent of the trails will be open this weekend.

The resort is offering lift tickets for $15 for the weekend of April 5 and 6, down from the normal price of $49. It is also offering a rental discount of $19 instead of the usual $32. Reservations must be made online via credit card at www.shawneepeak.com.

“We’ve sold probably in the 50 range right now,” Rock said Wednesday.

Rock said the sales will be voided if there is not enough demand. If the resort remains open, those who have not made a reservation may still purchase tickets at the window for $39.
