NEW SHARON – Linwood and Alberta Currier of New Sharon were honored at a 60th wedding anniversary celebration on March 6. Their children, Dan Currier of Parker, Colo., Alice Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sam Currier of Tucson, Ariz., arrived in Maine on the evening of March 5, where they covertly met their sister, (and accomplice) Elaine Moceus of New Sharon.

Since the couple was none the wiser at this point, secrecy was of the utmost importance. On the morning of March 6, Dan, Alice, Elaine and Sam arrived together at the home of their parents and surprised them with a corsage and boutonniere and a seafood luncheon at a restaurant in Skowhegan. It was a joyous moment that will long be cherished by the entire family.

Attending the celebration besides their children, were their grandson and his family, Toby, Joanna and Sabrina Black of Auburn. Although spouses were unable to attend the festivities, Patti from Colorado, Marvis from Arizona and Bill from New Sharon all sent their love and best wishes.

The couple was married in Farmington on March 6, 1948, by the Rev. Walter Cook. Mr. and Mrs. Currier have made their home and raised their family in New Sharon.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Currier is a lifetime member of the Masons of New Sharon. He retired from the Jay International Paper Mill in 1988 and continues his hobby of collecting and restoring antique engines. He very much enjoys traveling to engine meets where he can meet with others who share his fascination with all things mechanical.

Mrs. Currier is active in the Order of Eastern Star of New Sharon and enjoys crafts of all types, including tatting, crocheting and knitting, as well as oil, watercolor and tole painting. Her numerous entries in the Farmington Fair, as well as her growing collection of winning ribbons, attest to her wonderful and varied talents. She is also well known as the “cake lady,” and has graced many celebrations with her creations.

They are a hardworking couple who enjoy their garden in the spring and summer, process their own firewood to heat their home, and continue to blow snow from their long, cold driveway in the winter months.

The couple’s greatest joy is their children and their families, including seven grandchildren, Michael, Kym, Toby, Jason, Joe, Amanda and Abbie, and they happily boast nine great-grandchildren, Jessie, Zachary, Erica, Tanner, Tyler, Ashlea, Chloe, Dalton and Sabrina.
